Back at the first of the year, I was contacted by a representative of Boye's division of Simplicity Creative Group to design, knit and write loom knitting patterns for a new book in Boye's "I taught myself to..." series. While very exciting, I discovered that I only had a few weeks to complete the task. However, this was such a wonderful opportunity that I couldn't past it up. So, I proceeded with the speed of the Tasmanian Devil and this is the results:
Since it is one in a series of books and Boye made other arrangements for the DVD and the instructional portion of the book, my name appears on the inside front cover as the projects designer:
Projects range from easy to intermediate and include: sachet bags, lacy scarf & matching hat, hooded scarf with tassels, sports bottle cozy, belt, leafy flower, basic hat in three brim styles (rolled, hemmed & ear flap), hot pads, seamless handbag, baby blanket, drop stitch shawl and a panda bear toy.
The book is slowly making it's way into the craft's section of Walmart stores across the country. If you don't find it the first time you visit your local store, please check back periodically. They just started stocking it in our Villa Rica, GA store yesterday and it's been a month since the book was released.
I hope you enjoy the projects as much as I enjoyed creating them. If you have questions, find errors, or run into problems, feel free to contact me using the email link in my blog profile page.
Update: This book is now available from the Boye/Simplicity Creative Group site.

Glad that you have a book out. I will look for it!
Whoo hoo! Congratulations! And I can say I knew her when. . .
I purchased two on Saturday last week.(the other one is already gone) I really like the patterns Brenda. You must have been in a frazzled state making all those and writing the pattern. I still can't write the patterns up but then I'm also not creative to make patterns myself.
The video is lacking but she has a nice manicure.:-} e-wrap and figure 8 stitch and that is all and quite basic at that. She wrapped to tight too. Your part is great Brenda, I like the large photos and diagrams and print. That will really help beginners I think. We will see as questions roll in eventually.
Great job.
Congrats Brenda! You did a wonderful job!.
Happy to hear that it made it to you area. Gotta go check here. :D
I meant to add "Congratulations!" but hit the enter key instead.
Thanks, Brenda! I'll look for it. Nurses I work with love to loom knit hats. Maybe I'll buy a copy for work to expand the horizons there!

So very awesome, Brenda! I'll have to see if it's available in my area yet. Congrats!
Congrads!!! It must be great to have the project complete and published! I have not seen it yet, but will look for it.
I'm super thrilled for you! Loom Knitters scored another point in the knitting world! :) Congratulations again...looking forward to seeing it in person!
I purchased the book a few days ago at the local Wal-Mart and love the patterns. Will be starting one of those projects when I finish the prayer shawl I am working on now!
I'm off to check my Walmart......
Congratulations!

How exciting! Can't wait to see it and add it to my loom knitting collection too. Is it only sold at Walmart or can we purchase it another way? You deserve the RAVE reviews!

I'm new to Loom group and to your site/blog and was excited to see the book on here as I had already purchased it and I bought it for the hat on the front. I made one for my step-daughter and I am making one for my neice. I haven't even cracked open the DVD. I wish there were more loom books out there but I am so happy to have this book and the blog sites to get more ideas to work with. My one goal is to find sweater patterns. I have been making my own but I would love to have instructions to one. Congrats on the book and thanks for it!
Hello Jen! If you run into problems when working on any of the projects, please use the Contact Email address in the About Me section of this blog and I'll help you in any way I can. A few of the patterns have minor errors and I can give you the corrections if you need them. We are currently working on a new edition of the book that will hopefully be error free - if there is such a thing.
im leaving montreal and id like to know how can i get your book they dont supply it to walmart :(
i love what you do, you are a genius of the loom! id like you to show us how to modified a crochet pattern to transformed it to a loom pattern please. Thanks Christina
Christina, thank you for your very nice comments! The only place this current book is available is in the U.S. Walmart craft section. However, there is a revised edition of this book (most all of the previous patterns, plus several new ones, a new instructional section and a completely new DVD) that should be available within the next month. Hopefully, it will be in all the craft stores.
Hopefully, thank you Brenda! That would be nice if they could sale it as a e-book too so that way they can sell it worldwide!

I am a quilter, but when I saw knitted Pillow Pals made in South America on The Land of Nod website I ordered a book for beginners. These dolls are so smooth though. Most knitted dolls I see now that I am looking, look rough and the stitches are so large compared to these pillow dolls whose stitches are very flat. I know they use cotton and am wondering if that is the difference?
I have been looking on how and where to buy this for a few days now. Any help would be great.
The 2011 version of I Taught Myself to Loom Knit.
The book is suppose to be added to the Simplicity Creative Group's Website, but as far as I know, the only place it is currently available is at Walmart stores. I've noticed that while some of the stores are still carrying the 2010 version, others have the 2011 version, so be sure and check with all the different stores in your area.
keep meaning to ask you Brenda, this book still hasnt made it over to the UK yet and I want one for my collection seeing as I did learn to loom knit from you over four years ago now, can I buy it online anywhere yet please? I adore everything you do, you are so very talented and just genius with the patterns :) Love you loads, H xxx
